September 19, 2008, VOW's President emceed International Peace Day celebrations at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at which 50 non-profit organizations set up booths promoting global peace and justice.

A release of 60 white doves at noon signified the hopes for peace around the world. Several young performers danced, read poetry and sang to entertain the audience. Shirley Apple Murphy provided Native American prayers and chants to bless the occasion.
