On November 5, 2007, former VOW board member Ellen Macvean hosted 30 people in her home to hear Bonita Chamberlin talk about her years of work in Afghanistan, and to buy Afghan jewelry benefiting girls’ and boys’ schools in that country.

Bonita has spent nearly 30 years as a geologist and as a supporter of Afghan education (www.insideafghanistan.org).  She has set up an extraordinary jewelry business, training Afghans to mine and design jewelry with a dazzling variety of Afghan gems.  VOW members were able to learn a great deal about the history of the country, and to buy some lovely items that support Afghan employment, self determination, and education.
