On November 4, 2004, The San Diego Women Film Foundation and Voices of Women presented a free screening of "Women of Islam: Unveiling and Seclusion."

The documentary is a timely film that addressed issues, tradition and religion of the Middle East that have been seen and heard frequently in recent media. This film takes an in-depth look at how the stereotypes about Muslim women and their veils came into being and reveals the truth about the tradition of covering in Muslim society. The film took two and a half years to complete, and combines footage from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United States into a 50-minute work.

A panel discussion to talk about the film and the issues surrounding it followed at 8 p.m. Panelists included Dr. Ghada Osman, professor of Islamic studies at San Diego State University; Tehseen Lazzouni, Director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of San Diego; and Farheen Umar, writer, producer and director of Women of Islam: Unveiling and Seclusion.
