Past VOW Events

Moving Moments in Time: Spotlighting Local Actors and Global Issues, was presented by Voices of Women on July 15, 2002 at the North Coast Repertory Theatre.

The "local actors" were nine of San Diego's best: Rosina Reynolds, Ron Choularton, Linda Castro, Sylvia M'Lafi Thompson, Walter Murray, Laura Bozanich, Robert Dahey, Anne Tran and David Cohen.

The "global issues" addressed include human security, economic justice, peace, citizenship, fair play, and political leadership.

The actors performed dramatic readings on these topics, including the stirring words of Winston Churchill, the savvy insights of Eleanor Roosevelt, and the moving prose of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There was also a reading from The Mahdi, a novel by VOW board member Margo Dockendorf, and a special performance by local recording artist and activist Karl Anthony, accompanied by his wife Jeanne interpreting in sign dance.

A forum on global justice and fairness followed the performance.

This event was generously underwritten by San Diego National Bank. Net proceeds benefited the "Back to School for Afghan Children" project sponsored by the San Diego chapter of the United Nations Association.

The performance played to a sell-out audience and received a standing ovation. More than $3,000 were raised for the children at a school in Bagram, Afghanistan.
