Voices of Women welcomed The Ugandan Orphans Choir, Childcare Worldwide on February 27th at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in LaJolla.

It was an informative and festive evening featuring singing, drumming and dance! The Choir consists of 10 young boys and girls between the ages of 7 – 12 from the Ssese Islands in Lake Victoria, Uganda. They shared their native music and ceremony as well as recognizable religious songs. The audience of approximately 150 was mesmerized by the voices and synergy of the performers. The Ugandan Orphans Choir travels the globe sharing the story of their lives as orphans and seeking support for their personal and academic needs. The Voices of Women’s “red box” collected donations of $1300.00 to assist Childcare Worldwide in its mission to support the Ugandan orphans. The program included a brief but poignant discussion of African and U.S American Relations presented by Dr. Shirley Weber, Professor Africana Studies, SDSU.  It was an exciting and enriching evening!
