"Reflections on War and Peace" was presented by Voices of Women at the Lyceum Theatre on April 21.

In this production, 18 of San Diego's most exciting theater artists read selections by Shakespeare, Bob Dylan, Eli Weisel, Eleanor Roosevelt, Eve Ensler, Emily Mann, and others. Some were solemn, others electrifying, and a few downright hilarious (Swami Beyondananda and John Cleese of Monty Python fame). The audience of over 200 San Diegans responded with a standing ovation.

Director Rosina Reynolds artfully arranged the readings and recitations. Local recording artist and activist Karl Anthony wrote and performed the music, accompanied by his wife Jeanne interpreting in sign dance. The Old Globe's Craig Noel opened the program with personal remarks on war and peace.

A forum following the performance proved how motivating the readings were, how deeply concerned people are about the role our country is assuming in the world today, and the responsibility each of us holds for taking action and affecting positive change.

This event was underwritten by Marianne McDonald, Ph. D., and net proceeds in the amount of $2,100 were sent to Save the Children. This is VOW's second theatre presentation. The first, in July 2002, benefited an Afghani School.
